Trade Mark Registration and Protection in Bangladesh
Trade mark registration in Bangladesh is administered by the Department of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (DPDT) under the Trade Marks Act, 2009. A registered trade mark gives the owner the exclusive right to use the mark in Bangladesh in connection with the registered goods or services and provides a basis for enforcement action against infringers.
Registration Process
- Trade mark search to assess availability and risk of conflict with prior marks
- Application filed at DPDT with representation of the mark, list of goods/services (Nice Classification), and applicant details
- Examination by DPDT — objections may be raised and must be responded to within specified periods
- Publication in the Trade Marks Journal — third parties have 2 months to oppose
- Registration certificate issued — mark registered for 7 years, renewable indefinitely for 10-year periods
International Trade Marks
